The Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, LO, and PTK have agreed to extend funding for workplace safety training. The new agreement covers the period from September 1, 2024, to December 31, 2025, and aims to strengthen the skills of managers and safety representatives in the private sector.

The initiative is open to companies and organizations with collective bargaining agreements, and applications for funding will open on September 1, 2024. Training programs eligible for funding may begin no earlier than this date, and special priority will be given to programs in which managers and safety representatives participate together, as well as advanced training for safety or occupational health and safety representatives.

Terms and Conditions and Compensation Levels

The new agreement period covers both basic and advanced training. Reimbursement rates vary depending on whether managers take the training on their own or together with safety representatives, as well as on the duration of the training. Here are the key details:

  • Basic training for managers (50% reimbursement): Up to 5,000 SEK for training courses lasting three days or longer.
  • Joint training for managers and safety representatives (70% reimbursement for managers): Up to 7,000 SEK per participant for longer training courses.

The new initiative emphasizes the importance of managers and safety representatives participating together in training programs, a measure intended to foster closer cooperation on workplace safety issues. It is also clear that continuing education, particularly for safety representatives, is a priority component of the initiative, with higher reimbursement rates and stronger incentives for employers to send their employees to these courses.

Applications for reimbursement must be submitted no earlier than four months before and no later than four months after the start of the training, which gives companies ample opportunity to plan and organize their workplace safety training.
